I believe most of us will agree that the projects we teach and the manner in which we teach them are greatly influenced by who we are as individuals. To aid in better understanding this personal aspect of teaching art, Ask the Art Teacher will strive to get to know the inspiring individuals within our profession. Each month, this blog will feature an interview with a particularly interesting art educator, delving deep into that person’s unique teaching philosophies, inspirations, and intentions.
My name is Mark Rode and I’ve taught at the elementary and middle school levels for over six years. I first taught art in NYC, before moving back to Minneapolis, which is where I grew up. I currently teach at an elementary school in Champlin, Minnesota. I received my BA from the University of Minnesota, and my MFA in painting and drawing from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. You can see my own paintings on my other website, markrodeonline.com.
